About Us

Roy and Karen Goldman lived a quiet and conventional life in Jackson, California. Karen worked as a pharmacy technician, and Roy was a partner in a funeral home business. They worked hard raising their family but made it a point always to get away and see the world.

Their love of travel led them throughout Mexico, Puerto Rico, Belize, and other exotic locations in the Caribbean and Central America. Their travel adventures led them to discover within themselves a deep seated desire to create a beautiful space where travelers from around the world could visit an exotic tropical paradise and still feel right at home.

Finally they visited Nicaragua and fell in love with the area. They discovered that this once troubled country has now become a safe and desirable haven for adventure travelers, nature lovers and surfers alike. Roy and Karen decided that this was to be the place to build their dream, so they got to work.

They purchased their little jewel of a location and set about, literally with machete in hand, to carve out of the jungle an inviting sanctuary and resting place for the adventurous traveler.

The Goldmans set a goal of creating the resort with the least possible intrusion to the natural surroundings and waterways. They wanted to avoid the tendency of other resorts to strip an area down to bare soil before building. Their place in the sun was to be different—a part of the environment, not a replacement of it.

Visitors feel they did a wonderful job. The Bamboo Cabañas look as if they grew there naturally. Walking trails wind along the river through the natural habitat of colorful parrots and butterflies, howler monkeys, toucans and many other varieties of birds. If you look patiently, you may even see an occasional sloth or the national bird of Nicaragua, the turquoise browed Motmot (Guardabarranco)..

What is there to do in the local area? Find out in the "Things to Do" section of our website.

Roy and Karen can’t wait to meet you and become your friends. And When you leave, your only regret will be that you didn’t plan to stay longer.

The founders of this family-owned resort took great pains to preserve the natural surroundings and integrate guests into the beautiful and unspoiled environment.

Guests are attracted to the resort by the beauty of the location. But when they arrive they are pleasantly surprised to find a friendly family atmosphere. That is due to the hosts, Roy and Karen Goldman. Operating the resort is more than a business for them; it is a labor of love. They built it because they had a dream and fell in love with the area. They stayed because they couldn’t imagine finding a more beautiful way to live.
