At Empalme A Las Playas in Nicaragua your natural inclination may be just to enjoy hanging out with Roy and Karen, taking in the awesome nature that surrounds you, soaking up sunshine and the tranquil atmosphere. And that’s okay. But force yourself !!! Get out there and get to know the locale. There are plenty of sights to see, people to meet and activities to occupy your leisure time.
Start with Playa Marsella, a wonderful beach where you can enjoy swimming, or just soak up the sunshine and gentle breezes. You could quite possibly be alone or some of the few people on this quiet and beautiful beach.
If you feel a little more energetic go to Playa Maderas, one of the most popular surf breaks on the Pacific coast, where international surf competitions are held each year. Playa Maderas Beach boasts 330 days of off shore winds per year, making it a magnet for surfers and beach goers alike.
Ready for a little more? Maybe you are ready for a trip to La Flor Reserve. See where more than 3,000 Olive Ridley sea turtles come to the beach, all at the same time, to lay their eggs. Or be fortunate enough to see the hatch and witness the young make it to the Pacific to start their new lives. The forests provide a natural habitat for monkeys, coyotes, Iguana verde, and hundreds of birds. This is a night trip and a once in a lifetime chance to see the miracle of nature.
Maybe deep sea fishing is more to your liking. You can catch a fishing expedition right here. Or maybe a sunset cruise is more your speed. You can enjoy that too.
The somewhat more adventurous may choose to take a guided tour of the jungle canopy; Are you ready to swing on a cable through the jungle? Perhaps use a local guide and take a horseback ride over the local beaches or through the surrounding countryside.
Don’t miss Isla de Ometepe, where two volcanoes, "Concepción" and " Maderas ," arise from Big Lake Nicaragua. One volcano is dormant; the other is active. You’ll enjoy the many tourist attractions and museums and, if you’re in pretty good shape, you can even climb to the top of either volcano for an incredibly beautiful view of the lake and surrounding area. If you are traveling with young children or teenagers they can have fun and even learn something about the rich native cultural roots of the country. Touring Ometepe Island has been said to be spiritual and enlightening.
Be sure and visit the little fishing village of San Juan del Sur, visitors are always welcome. San Juan del Sur offers other fine dining, night life and a great variety of treasures not to be missed. For day trips visit nearby Granada, the artisans market in Masaya, Volcan Masaya or the view the crater lake of Laguna de Apoyo.
